Beach restaurant in Somalia's Mogadishu has been attacked by gunmen

MOGADISHU: On Friday, at least 7 people killed in a bombing and gun attack on a beach restaurant in the Somalian capital of Mogadishu.

On Thursday, Shabaab jihadists have attack the Banadir Beach Restaurant in Mogadishu, had set a car bomb before exchanging fire with security forces, an AFP correspondent said.

Security forces said, after 6 hours operation overnight they have killed 2 attackers and another has been arrested.

The al-Qaeda-linked Shabaab group has taken responsibility for the attack through website of their Andalus radio station.

The Banadir Beach Restaurant near Lido beach is a popular restaurant frequently visited by young people and Somali officials.

In resent Shabaab attacks, the fighting began with the militants setting off bomb in a nearby car before vigorous the building and engaging in a gunfight with security forces.
Inside the restaurant attackers throw several grenades from their position towards security services that cordoned off the area, the correspondent said.

The car bomb failed to explode fully and they accompany local reporters to a nearby hospital where they handed a injured man, with his head bandaged, as the bomber, Somali authorities said.

The Somali national news agency Sonna said some 20 people had been able to escape from the restaurant during the gunfight with the help of security forces.

The Shabaab group is fighting to conquer the internationally-backed government in the capital Mogadishu.

Five year ago it was forced out of the capital by African Union soldiers and still continues to attack including in recent months on restaurants, hotels and military bases.
